6 Gradi Di Separazione Matteo Farinella

This is a very special occasion: my first post in Italian! (English translation below)

A presto!

For those who can’t dance

The friends from Lök asked my contribution for an exhibition about “Dance”.

This illustration summarizes my 27 years experience in the field:

Another comeback from the past…

during these days in Bologna I am working on an expanded and revised draft of 6 Degrees Of Separation, the graphic novel which I [optimistically] declared completed 10 months ago.

Recruitment for volunteer proofreaders is now open.

a short novel – a long complaint

…is finally here

(I still can’t believe I have made it)

I am currently putting together a first draft  in order to send it to some “lucky” friends and get some feedback. For the final printed version you will have to wait a little bit longer but if anyone feels like doing some proofreading just drop me an e-mail and you may get an exclusive preview.

Not yet (but nearly there)

I’m back in Bologna for two long weeks. I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year  (if that is your wish). Personally I’m planning to avoid festivities as far as I can and work full time on my graphic novel. Several things have been slowing me down lately but I feel it’s really time to conclude it. I’ll try to make the most of this forced holiday.

We suffer today I believe from a lack of connection with each other. That is common knowledge, so common in fact, that it may not even be true. It may be that we are overconnected, for all I know. However I am acting on the first assumption, that we are underconnected, and thus have flung you these lines, which you may grasp or let fall as you will. But I feel that if you neglect them, you will suffer for it. That is merely my private opinion. No police power supports it. I have no means of punishing you  for not listening, for having a closed heart. There is no punishment for that, in our society. Not yet.

Some updates

In 6 Degrees Of Separation, MetaArte on October 21, 2010 at 5:11 pm
  • I’ve been working on a couple of short stories that will soon be published. I mean not here but on real magazines!
  • my graphic novel 6 degrees of separation didn’t get the first prize at Komikazen. Never mind, because the winner is a really talented artist and I’m looking forward to read his book. I’m determined to finish my story nonetheless but I think it’s better to put it aside for a while. Considering its semi-autobiographic nature and some recent developments in my private life I fear it would turn in something extremely bitter (and I reckon it is bitter enough already)
  • in the next few days I’ll try to keep me busy writing  my comic diary

a small world theory

Here are the first four pages of Six Degrees Of Separation as submitted to the competition (volunteer mother-tongue proof readers are welcome)

my first graphic novel?

In 6 Degrees Of Separation, MetaArte on August 30, 2010 at 4:46 pm

After this long weekend 16 pages are almost ready (24 still to go).  Working on such a long comic has been a wearing experience for me. Soon I’ll post here the first 4 pages (those that will actually take part in the Komikazen competition) and then I’ll start working on something completely different…

Whether and when you’ll see this finished it depends mainly from the panel’s decision, I guess.

Wish me luck!

Topology problems

In 6 Degrees Of Separation, Conversations, science on August 22, 2010 at 9:10 am

The Seven Bridges of Königsberg is a notable historical problem in mathematics. Its negative resolution by Leonhard Euler in 1735 laid the foundations of graph theory and presaged the idea of topology.
